Furukawa Electric Co. Ltd improved the reliable S179 to S179+ and added a few powerful features to enhance the splicing process:
- Cleave angle compensation (ACCS) when the relative angle is too high (between 2° and 5°)
- Automatic arc calibration (Fluid Arc System – FAS) – the algorithm is based on hot image processing which constantly monitors arc conditions
- Improved algorithm for splice loss estimation
- The typical splice loss on SM fiber is now 0.01 dB
The new model will be showcased at OFC (25-28 March, San Diego USA) and Angacom (15-18 May, Cologne Germany).
